Rafferty's Rules

With a whimsical nod to the healthy disregard of authority and tradition that is part of the Australian heritage ( Rafferty's Rules, an Australian colloquialism, means "No Rules at all"), Rafferty's takes a few extra steps to arrive at the high ground of quality. This is the other approach to making wine.

Instead of celebrating regional character, which we do proudly and with gusto in the rest of our portfolio, we have blended these wines away from region in flavor of opulence in style, structure, and varietal definition. Smooth, rich, balanced wines of profound depth and length, Rafferty's celebrates the possibility of the varieties, taking advantage of their diverse environments.

Rafferty's is borne of 17 years experience bringing to the U S wines that are among Australia 's best.

2001 [angels' share] SHIRAZ

Rafferty's Rules Wines

The dense, impenetrable, deep purple color foreshadows what is to come. A nose of blackberry and white pepper leads to an explosive mid palate of black fruits with an intensely satisfying finish of fruit, acid and alcohol in perfect balance. While displaying a more masculine style than its predecessor, this vintage retains the family identity of Rafferty's Shiraz - balance. No overblown oak or jammy fruit. Jam is for toast!

2002 [fat chance] CABERNET MERLOT

Rafferty's Rules Wines

A dream blend of lush Barossa Cabernet and elegant, spicy, Merlot from the Clare Valley . Leafy, lifted cassis and plum notes lead into smooth, rich fruit that caresses the palate.

2001 [the ringer] SHIRAZ CABERNET

Rafferty's Rules Wines

"The Ringer" = An Unfair Advantage = Our willingness to blend across regions and varieties.

A uniquely Australian blend that captures the best of both varieties; gaining length, structure and high toned cassis and blackcurrant notes from cool climate Cabernet married to the velvet, lush, spicy flavors of warm climate shiraz.
